NARROW BAND EMERGENCY MESSAGING SYSTEM

The NBEMS (pronounced N-beams in the trade) is a stunning way to send documents over amateur radio.  You can use HF, VHF, UHF and repeaters to get your critical traffic through.  In an emergency what is you served agency going to be more impressed with?  Their emergency communicator trying to par their message down tight enough to fit in a 25 word NTS message form or you taking their word document, spread sheet or photograph and just blasting the document in its native from through your radio?  Huh?  If have to think about that your fixing to get left behind in the emcomm game because the landscape is changing.We have to send detailed lists of supplies, medications, refugees and other data that just not lend itself to phonetically spelling out a gazillion different complicated medical terms and pharmaceuticals.

In order to ensure 100% transmission of these type documents a digital system with a checksum is mandatory. While this sounds hard, it is actually quite easy using FL-Digi, FLARQ AND WRAP.  You don't need any digital interfaces or special cables to make it happen.  All we have to do is load some simple software on our comuters and then hold the mike next to the speaker and let it rip.  They are calling this "acoustical coupling" now.  Here in hillbilly land we call it holding the mic up next to the speaker.  Then you just park your computers microphone close enough to the radios speaker for it to hear and like magic, documents just come rolling in. Next you download WRAP:

If you downloaded these to your desktop you have two files that look like this:

Next you double click on the FL-Digi .exe file and you will get this security warning.  I clicked run and never looked back.

Then you click continue to accept the license:

The installation routine will automatically check the first four boxes.  Let it eat and hit next:

Now click install and let it run:

Now hit close and you have FL-Digi installed:
