Procedure for use of Checklist

When Activating and Deactivating

Amateur Radio Equipment and Securing

Station WE4EOC

1. Introduction

Hall County ARES operates and maintains various HF and VHF Amateur Radio equipment

located at Hall County EOC, Crescent Drive, Gainesville Ga. To ensure operator safety and to avoid

damage to the equipment from improper activation / deactivation or from electrical storms, power spikes

etc when the station is unattended, three (3) sequential checklists have been developed for each step in

the station startup and shutdown process for the above mentioned Amateur Radios and associated

equipment. These checklists include one (1) checklist each for HF and VHF equipment activation and one

(1) checklist for deactivation.

The checklists are entitled:

• (Appendix 1) Hall County EOC Amateur Radio Room Activation Checklist for HF Operations

• (Appendix 2) Hall County EOC Amateur Radio Room Activation Checklist for VHF Operations

• (Appendix 3) Hall County EOC Amateur Radio Room Deactivation Checklist

2. Responsibilities

All (In time of emergency and/or shortage of operators, non-ARES operators may be

utilized under the direct supervision of an authorized control operator) authorized person/persons

operating the Amateur Radio equipment provided to Hall County ARES must, prior to use and when securing the

station, follow established checklist to activate station equipment and deactivate same when securing

the station. These checklists provide the proper sequence for both activation and deactivation of the

station. There are check sheets for HF and VHF equipment activation and station deactivation

provided inside the Amateur Radio room located at the Hall County EOC. These check list have

spaces for date, person activating, time activating, control operators name, call sign, signature and

spaces for initials that would indicate each step was performed in sequence and are to be filled in as

appropriate. If the supply of blank forms becomes low, the current Hall County EC should be notified

and the checklist forms will be re-supplied.
